The Willow Moss Texel Flock

The Willow Moss Texel flock was established in 2006 by Angus Baillie and Kevin Moores with the purchase of females from noted Texel flocks such as Brookfield, Ballaglonney, Cauldcoats, Grougfoot and a draft of ten gimmers and ewes from Cresswell.

Our first tup, Rosslea Major, was bought at Carlisle in 2006. This Strong, well boned Knock Impulse son, a half brother to the renowned Tophill Joe, has stamped his mark on the flock already and is still working for us today.

In September 2008 a further visit to Skipton resulted in another nine gimmers joining us. These were from well-known flocks such as Tophill, Fimber, Meinspride, Gib Farm and Parkholme.

In January 2009 we were fortunate enough to be gifted a draft of six in lamb gimmers from Procters Farms, these were in lamb to Kerryhill Oliver and Mattadale on top. We have since gone on to use two of the resulting tup lambs. Willow Moss Perseus and Willow Moss Performance. Perseus in particular has left us big, well muscled lambs with plenty of length.

In August 2009 we sold our first shearlings. We received a good strong trade, particularly at Bentham. Our purpose built handling shed was also finished mid 2009. This modern building makes working with the sheep much easier and is excellent during lambing.

Our aim for the future is to keep numbers to around 40 ewes producing good strong tups and females for the commercial market.
